We call our group “Makuya.” The term “makuya” is a Japanese word for a tent, or the holy tabernacle in the biblical sense. There is a description in the Old Testament: “the tabernacle of meeting…, where I (the LORD) will meet you to speak with you” (Exodus 29:42, NKJV).
As symbolized by “tabernacle,” we are not concerned with the establishment of religious institutions. Therefore, we pray and worship in rented halls, people’s homes, or even outside in nature.
We emphasize an encounter with the living God wherever we may be in everyday life. As it is written, “you are the temple of God and… the Spirit of God dwells in you” (I Corinthians 3:16), we also believe that each one of us is a tabernacle, a vessel of God’s Spirit.
Makuya-Type Faith
A true spiritual devotion is not to worship God outwardly or to pay homage to a church, but to have God dwell within our innermost heart as a holy sanctuary.
